The facilities in Yanbu 1 and Yanbu 2 have power
and water production plants to meet the power
demand of industries and local communities in the
Yanbu Industrial City.
Covering an area of over 630,000 m2, the power generation facility at Yanbu 1 has nine Gas Turbine Generators (GTGs) with a total capacity of 524.6 MW. Moreover, The Yanbu I power plant has an additional three Steam Turbine Generators (STGs) equipped with one steam turbine unit with a capacity of 127 MW and two steam turbines with a capacity of 250 MW each.
The power plant in Yanbu 2 is located 15km from the plant in Yanbu 1. The newly built power generation facility covers an area of 1,505,528 m2 and has three Steam Turbine Generators (STGs) with a total generation capacity of 825 MW.
The Gas Turbine Generators (GTGs) burn the fuel in the combustion chamber, producing hot gaseous vapors responsible for driving the turbine and generator. Steam is produced due to the heat at the turbine's exhaust and is later used for thermal desalination in heat recovery steam generators.
On the other hand, the steam turbine generators combust the fuel in a subcritical boiler, producing superheated steam that drives the turbine and its generator. Then, using seawater-cooled condensers, the steam is cooled and sent back to the boiler for a closed cycle steam production.
